Saul Alinsky's Rules for Radicals-Do These Sound or Seem Timely?

“Never let a crisis go to waste”  as said by Rahm Emanuel, was first said in a different way by Saul Alinsky. He wrote in his Rules for Radicals, “in the arena of action a threat or a crisis becomes almost a precondition to communication” taken from Machiavelli’s The Prince “strike and beat down fortune through skilled action ” XXV. Jacques  Maritain has an excellent argument against Machiavelli and the Chomsky view of political engagement. Check out this site.
Rahm cut his baby teeth on this stuff. The Alinsky, Chomsky Marxist agenda is behind all this nonsense at the DNC.

  • RULE 1: “Power is not only what you have, but what the enemy thinks you have.” Power is derived from 2 main sources – money and people. “Have-Nots” must build power from flesh and blood.
  • RULE 2: “Never go outside the expertise of your people.” It results in confusion, fear and retreat. Feeling secure adds to the backbone of anyone.
  • RULE 3: “Whenever possible, go outside the expertise of the enemy.” Look for ways to increase insecurity, anxiety and uncertainty.
  • RULE 4: “Make the enemy live up to its own book of rules.” If the rule is that every letter gets a reply, send 30,000 letters. You can kill them with this because no one can possibly obey all of their own rules.
  • RULE 5: “Ridicule is man’s most potent weapon.” There is no defense. It’s irrational. It’s infuriating. It also works as a key pressure point to force the enemy into concessions.
  • RULE 6: “A good tactic is one your people enjoy.” They’ll keep doing it without urging and come back to do more. They’re doing their thing, and will even suggest better ones.
  • RULE 7: “A tactic that drags on too long becomes a drag.” Don’t become old news.
  • RULE 8: “Keep the pressure on. Never let up.” Keep trying new things to keep the opposition off balance. As the opposition masters one approach, hit them from the flank with something new.
  • RULE 9: “The threat is usually more terrifying than the thing itself.” Imagination and ego can dream up many more consequences than any activist.
  • RULE 10: “If you push a negative hard enough, it will push through and become a positive.” Violence from the other side can win the public to your side because the public sympathizes with the underdog.
  • RULE 11: “The price of a successful attack is a constructive alternative.” Never let the enemy score points because you’re caught without a solution to the problem.
  • RULE 12: Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it.” Cut off the support network and isolate the target from sympathy. Go after people and not institutions; people hurt faster than institutions.

Sounds like the rules for the Democratic National Convention.

It occurs to me that the most crucial thing in this war of nerves against these Alinskyite assaults is to possess sanctifying grace. We can't hope to resist evil without it. We can have brains, we can have courage, we can have skill, but without sanctifying grace, it's like marching into battle, starving and completely naked, armed with nothing but a pocket knife and a trash can lid. And I greatly fear, based on the way I see people living their lives, that many of us -- maybe even most of us, and even many Catholics -- do not possess sanctifying grace.

The devil himself could have written those.

Anita, there is only one way to get and stay in sanctifying grace and that is in and through the sacramental life of the Catholic Church. You know this and I know this. I blog in order to bring people to this one truth, that is, be an excellent Catholic.

Most people can read and understand why the Rules for Radicals are not appropriate for the Catholic Church to use. So why do so many bishops and pastors join with/ donate thousands of dollars to/ train parishioners IN THE CATHOLIC CHURCH??? The split is obvious: those who support "progressive" community organizing in the Church also support pro-abortion, etc. Why can't the bishops and pastors see how wrong this is??? www.johntwo24-25.net (more information on this)

Be strong in our weakness and let the Lord use us as he will to fight this garbage. Alinskyian organizing moved into our diocese a few years ago, and we've been fighting it since 2008. We have a friend who has been fighting it for 20 years now. Never give up. Amen to the sacramental approach. You might be interested in our website
